Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy has been subbed out of today's clash against Geelong.

It was believed at first Grundy injured his shoulder in a marking contest, but the club confirmed to Fox Footy that it was a neck injury that forced Grundy out of the game.

The incident occurred in the third term and Grundy was replaced by medical substitute Finlay Macrae.

Grundy was one of the Magpies' shining lights, collecting 12 disposals and kicking a goal.

He kicked Collingwood's only goal up to three-quarter-time as they trialed by 24-points at the final break.

Grundy was taken to the Epworth Hospital for precautional scans.
