The AFL has announced that the Brisbane Lions will receive a priority pick in this year's draft.

The Lions will receive a pick immediately after the first round, which is currently pick No.19.

The AFL commission informed the club on Thursday that they will receive an extra pick in the first round, in time for this year's trade period, which begins on Monday, October 10.

The Commission took into account the age and profile of the Lions' list and the ins and outs of the club in recent years.

Brisbane finished 15th in 2014 and second last in both of the past two seasons.
