The Cats have suffered a huge injury blow ahead of tomorrow night's preliminary final against the Swans, with Dan Menzel ruled out due to a groin injury.

Menzel missed Rounds 21 and 22 this season due to the injury, however, returned to the side in the final game of the year, kicking four goals against the Demons.

The injury is said to have flared up again following Geelong's qualifying final win over Hawthorn, with the Cats opting not to risk the 25-year-old.

Menzel has kicked 33 goals in 18 games this year, after only returning from four knee reconstructions earlier this season.

While it is a cruel blow for both Menzel and Geelong, it could ease Chris Scott's selection headaches, with Lachie Henderson set to return to the side following minor knee surgery after the Cats' Round 22 win over Brisbane at the Gabba.
