AFL chief Gillon McLachlan has announced that Adelaide's clash with Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Sunday will not go ahead out of respect to Phil Walsh.

McLachlan announced that the two clubs will share the points from the match.

"The premiership points will be split between the two clubs as per the AFL rules. The remaining seven games will go ahead," he said.

"It is not fair to ask the young men of the Adelaide Crows or the Geelong Cats to play in these circumstances.

"This is a decision of the competition, as a mark of respect to Phil Walsh.

"This decision has the support of clubs and the Players Association.

"The thoughts of the whole football family are with you (the Walsh family) today and in the days ahead.”
