Carlton have an exciting young duo to watch this season and their performance against Richmond On Thursday prompted former AFL star Brent 'Boomer' Harvey to crown them as the best two players under 23-years old.

Patrick Cripps and Charlie Curnow showed incredible raw talent and poise in their round one clash at the MCG.

The 23-year-old and 21-year-old respectively received high praise from the current AFL/VFL games record holder on RSN Radio, already slotting them in as his top young stars within the 23-year age bracket.

"They have got the best two players in the competition under 23-years old ... by a mile," Harvey told RSN 927 Radio.

Cripps put on a tough performance in his side's 26-point loss, tallying a game-high 36 disposals, with 25 contented possessions to his name as well. Meanwhile, Curnow started the season on fire up forward, kicking five goals with perfect accuracy.

"Curnow was impressive. I knew he was a good player but to come out and do that ... he's going to be a star," Boomer told RSN Radio.

"Cripps will be the best midfielder in the competition and then he'll nearly be the best centre half forward in the competition."

Harvey is so sure about Cripps' career trajectory, he is already predicting how his game will evolve for Carlton and what role he will be playing come the latter end of his playing career.

"He's 1cm taller than Wayne Carey I think, which is amazing ... he will play his last four or five years at centre half forward."
