Exciting Bomber Irving Mosquito will make his long-awaited AFL debut for the club he supported growing up in the Dreamtime clash against Richmond in Darwin on Saturday night.

Playing for the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup, Mosquito was selected with pick 38 by the Bombers in the 2018 AFL draft.

Hawthorn had the chance to select Mosquito under the Next Generation Academy rules but opted to pass on him, paving the way for the Bombers to select him.

Bombers coach John Worsfold said Mosquito has earned his opportunity to make his debut for the club.

"This is a pun, but he brings a real buzz around the place," Worsfold said.

"He's worked really hard. Since he's been up here, some of his games in our match sim have been electrifying. He deserves his opportunity."

Mosquito was close to debuting for the Bombers in their 2019 campaign, but a hamstring injury derailed that from happening.

Mosquito is expected to line up in the forward half for the Bombers despite being used in defence in recent scratch matches.

Worsfold said he will be exciting to watch with the footy in hand.

"He's obviously very quick around the ball and has really good closing speed, so he puts pressure on defenders," he said.

"He takes the ball cleanly, he's a beautiful left-foot kick and he has very good hands on the lead, so it's going to be exciting just to see him around the footy."
