Essendon is looking at former Richmond premiership forward Jacob Townsend, and could offer him a spot on their list for 2020.

According to AFL.com.au, Townsend met with the Bombers at Tullamarine last week, with the club considering a move for the 26-year-old.

Townsend shot to stardom at the end of the 2017 season, after playing the final five games of the season booting 16 goals, including two in the grand final.

He then played 10 games in 2018, before making just the one appearance this past season.

He played a total of 20 games for the Tigers, following 28 for the Giants between 2012-2015.

If Townsend does get a move to Essendon, he'll link up with ex-Richmond assistant coaches Blake Caracella and Ben Rutten, with Rutten set to take over from John Worsfold at the end of the 2020 season.
