Defenders

Back Pocket: Heath Shaw (GWS)

The Giants veteran kept Port star Robbie Gray to only two goals and had 28 disposals and five marks and provided GWS with plenty of run in their 22-point win over the Power.

Full Back: Tom Clurey (Port Adelaide)

Clurey played one of his best games for the club in an otherwise disappointing night where the Power went down to the Giants by 22 points. The young defender had 16 disposals at 81% efficiency and took nine marks.

Back Pocket: Rory Laird (Adelaide)

Laird has been in great form since he has come back from a hand injury and he was one of the best players on the ground in the Adelaide Crows thrilling five-point win over the Lions on Saturday night. Laird finished with 29 disposals and kicked a goal and provided plenty of rebound from defence all night.

Half Back: Alex Witherden (Brisbane)

Witherden is one of the favourites for this year’s AFL Rising Star and his game on Saturday night against the Crows certainly did his chances no harm at all. The young defender finished with 31 disposals and 12 marks.

Centre Half Back: Jeremy McGovern (West Coast)

The versatile defender must be a real chance of winning a spot as an All-Australian this year and he had 20 disposals, 14 of those being contested and took six marks.

Half Back: Lachie Whitfield (GWS)

Whitfield was terrific down back for the Giants in their 22-point away victory against the Power. The 2012 number one draft pick finished with game high 31 disposals and took eight marks to be one of the best players on the ground.
