Herald Sun journalist and SEN Breakfast's Sam Edmund has reported that Eddie Betts wants to play for Carlton next year.

Betts has already met with the Blues, where he played 184 games in eight seasons kicking 290 goals.

Betts is currently contracted to the Crows for next year though is reportedly unhappy and is weighing up his future.

The 32-year-old kicked 37 goals from 21 games this year at West Lakes.

"I yesterday discovered that he (Betts) definitely prefers a move to Carlton over Gold Coast." Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

"In fact, he's only going to play at one of two clubs next year and that is the Blues or the Suns.

"The Blues is more of a lifestyle-based decision, the Suns is definitely a financial one.

"He's received no formal contract offer from the Blues or the Suns but would almost certainly have to take a pay cut if he chose Carlton."

The lure back to Carlton would largely have to do with family as Betts' wife Anna' is from Melbourne.

"His wife Anna, and he's spoken repeatedly about this over the years, found it really tough to leave her family behind in Melbourne and he has paid tribute to her a few times over the years," Edmund said.

"The couple have always said they wanted to move back to Melbourne at some point towards the end of his career."

Earlier on Tuesday, The Age's Sam McClure told Gerard Whateley he believes Jack Martin and Tom Papley will join Betts at Ikon Park next season.
