Brisbane captain Dayne Beams was forced to the bench for treatment after copping a high and late hit from Melbourne's Bernie Vince early in the second term during the Lions' clash with the Dees at the MCG.

Vince, who has found himself in trouble with the MRP at times already this season, hit Beams in the head with his forearm as the Lions mid went for a mark.

After being assessed by doctors, Beams returned to the field midway through the quarter to play out the first half.

With co-captain Jack Viney already out injured, it would be a huge blow at this stage of the season should Vince be suspended.

Melbourne lead Brisbane 6.6 (42) to 6.3 (39) at half-time.
