Friday night will see Hawthorn host the Western Bulldogs at the MCG in a top-eight tussle. But while the players are busy preparing to battle it out on the field, comedian Danny McGinlay has been busy with his writing pad and back to his usual antics, concocting mock banners for the clubs to run out to.
The Bulldogs will be hoping to keep their hot form running and move further up the ladder with a third consecutive win, while the Hawks sit in third and are looking to cement their spot in the top four.
In his usual style, McGinlay has used footy and social lore and an impressive understanding of rhyme scheme to imagine how the Hawks and Dogs could poke fun at each other.
While McGinlay's joke banners are unlikely to be used by the respective clubs, for reasons you will see below, they do draw on the old rivalry of rich against poor, with a splash of toilet humour.
Hawthorn
Tonight, we take on the Dogs
Even though the weather is that fresh
It gives our fans a rare opportunity
To see poor people in the flesh
Western Bulldogs
We too have brown and yellow
In our territory...
The colours are in a plant
Right next to Werribee
