Banner Man, Danny McGinlay has once again taken on tonight's fixture between Geelong and Carlton, imagining two lyrical banners that take snide jabs at the opposition ahead of the showdown at the MCG.

The comedian, in his typical style, has used footy lore, current events and an impressive understand of rhyme scheme to imagine how the Blues and Cats could poke fun at each other.

Geelong's banner calls the Carlton theme song into play, making use of the much mocked line "we're the team that never lets you down." While the Blues have started to turn the season around (thanks Fraser), the threat of the Cats is looming heavily over the heads of many newly revived Carlton fans this week.

While it's easy to take pot shots at the Blues, Geelong's notably more successful season has left the Carlton banner drawing inspiration from current events to get their digs in. McGinlay references Jannik Sinner's epic choke this week at the 2026 French Open. Sinner, currently the world's No. 1-ranked tennis player was favourite to win his match before he somehow lost 18 points in a row and ultimately was knocked out of the tournament, with underdog Juan Manuel Cerundolo progressing instead.

The parallels between the tennis match and tonight's football game are clear to see: A fan favourite, an upcoming underdog and the potential for an embarrassing and memorable choke. If the Blues can pull it off though remains to be seen.

Carlton takes on Geelong 7:40pm tonight at the MCG.

Geelong

Carlton's song is incorrect
We suggest some tweaks
"We're the team that hasn't let you down
For almost three whole weeks."

Carlton

Geelong are red hot favourites
Everyone assumes the winner
But tonight the Baggers will make you choke
Harder than Jannik Sinner.
