Melbourne has welcomed back to the club All-Australian ruckman Mark Jamar in a ruck coaching role for the 2025 season.

Jamar played 155 games for the Demons across 14 seasons, kicking 56 goals and claiming the number one ruckman in the competition in 2010.

Joining the Victorian club on a part-time basis, the 41-year-old will work closely with the tall contingent at Melbourne, namely Max Gawn, Tom Campbell, Tom Fullarton and Will Verrall.

"Got the call a week ago to help out with the rucks," Jamar said.

"One training session a week... it's quite flattering to get asked to come back and work with Maxy (Gawn)."

GM of Football Performance Alan Richardson said the reunion after a decade will benefit the club in more ways than one.

"We're really excited to have someone of Mark's character and calibre with us, to work with our rucks," Richardson said.ย ย

"Mark called Melbourne home for 14 seasons, and to now have him assisting both our experienced rucks in Max Gawn and Tom Campbell, and an up-and-comer in Will Verrall, is pretty special.ย ย

"We look forward to seeing how Mark can help our mix throughout our 2025 campaign."

Nicknamed โ€˜The Russian', Jamar first joined Melbourne via the rookie draft in 2001, making his AFL debut in 2003.ย ย

Jamar signed with Essendon in 2016 as a top-up player due to the supplements saga controversy, adding another five games to his tally.

He also spent time at the Bombers in a coaching capacity following his retirement.
