The Bombers have asked the AFL for assistance, but why won't they get it?
Richmond has unveiled a unique guernsey that is very similar to a rivals.
While there's plenty of movement around Geelong's Tyson Stengle and Patrick Dangerfield.
All that and more from media buzz...
Why Essendon's assistance plea will fail
The Bombers are in discussions with the AFL over an assistance package after slumping to 18th on the ladder shortly after sacking their senior coach.
However, Essendon's plea isn't expected to get over the line for multiple reasons:
- They've had 10 first-round selections in six years
- They have a war chest they've yet to use ($3million)
- The next draft rules is likely to grant the Bombers an extra first-round pick, if they bid on Cody Walker with Pick 1 (as the ladder stands now)
Tom: "Is it embarrassing that Essendon feel the need to ask for help despite having had these top draft picks and said no to draft picks for Merrett?"
Rooey: "Swallow your pride. If you can get a competitive advantage I think it's probably incumbent on you to ask the question."… pic.twitter.com/0kuxhcRvPE

Longmire responds to trio of coaching vacancies
Sydney premiership coach John Longmire has yet to decide whether he'll push for the coaching vacancies at Carlton, Essendon or Tasmania.
“(The) quick answer is no," Longmire said on AFL360.
“I'm just waiting to see what transpires, and see how it all plays out.
“As I said a few weeks ago, things become a bit clearer as time passes, (but) at the moment, that's how it sits with me.
“I know everyone wants a yes or no decision, but nothing's changed from a couple of weeks ago from my perspective.”
Is John Longmire any closer to putting his hand up for the Carlton, Essendon or Tasmania jobs?

Worrying Giants coach admission regarding star's future
GWS coach Adam Kingsley is still unsure what captain Toby Greene will do regarding his future.
Greene is out of contract, and has an interest in returning to Victoria, the state he grew up, but a call on when that is, is yet to be decided.
Kingsley doesn't know if he will stay in Giants colours, but is assured the decision won't impact his ability and influence on games.
"We're very hopeful he stays."
Tom: "Do you think that he (Greene) will stay?"
Kingsley: "Well I don't really know. I think he'll stay based on his actions and the way that he carries himself around the club."

Carlton loved Voss, just not as a coach
The Blues have a new lease on life following the departure of Michael Voss as senior coach, reflected by three consecutive wins under caretaker Josh Fraser.
According to a report on the Agenda Setters, players loved Voss as a person, but struggled with his coaching tactics and strategies, which ultimately didn't hold up.
"They loved Michael Voss as a person and a leader, but they didn't love him as a coach towards the end."

The Stengle return
The AFL has given Geelong the green tick for Tyson Stengle to return to football after a tumultuous season to date due to personal issues.
Stengle hasn't played a game in 2026, and has been following the league's medical model, according to SEN.
He has returned to training last week, and is considered a chance to play VFL football this week.
Danger, Danger, Danger
Geelong veteran Patrick Dangerfield has a desire to continue playing in 2027 in a bid to continue the Cats' incredible premiership contention.
Dangerfield is out of contract, and has played eight games thus far, kicking a goal in every match.
The former Crow has played 368 games, and a new deal for next season will put him in range for the 400-game mark, joining the illustrious six-man club.
No discussions have yet to ramp up, according to the Herald Sun, but there's an understanding both parties would continue the relationship.
Out-of-favour Blue on the lookout
Carlton's Blake Acres is understood to be open to a move to a fourth club after spending majority of the first half of the year in the reserves.
Acres is contracted for next year, but could face an uncertain future amid a new era at Ikon Park, which will include a new senior coach.
AFL Media suggested the winger will keep his options open at season's end.
