The Adelaide Crows have been urged to pick up Fremantle tall Brennan Cox to fill a current vacancy of key defenders.

Matt Rendell, who was Adelaide's recruitment manager from 2007 to 2012, says the Crows need another tall backman and implored the club to make an irrefutable offer.

Cox has emerged as a critical player for the Dockers in 2020 when the club was struggling for depth in their defensive stocks and has so far racked up 70 appearances in Fremantle colours.

"They’re (Adelaide Crows) relying on two young guys (in defence) in Jordon Butts and Nick Murray and I really like those two blokes and I think they’re going to be really good for them, I would like another one there,” Rendell told SEN SA’s The Run Home.

“You need three. Billy Frampton had his go. He’s struggled on the really good forwards.

Brennan Cox is one, and I don’t know what his situation is, he is one I would go for there if he was available.

“Or I would make him an offer too good to refuse. He’s in that right window too, he’s 23.

“In two or three years time he’s in his prime and playing his best footy, Butts will be 23-24, Murray, the same, and then you can have a look at challenging the top four."

Five off-season targets for EVERY club: Adelaide Crows

Butts and Murray are both currently contracted at Adelaide until the end of the 2023 season, while Frampton is tied to the Crows until the end of the 2022 season.

Meanwhile, Brennan Cox still remains contracted at the Dockers until the end of the 2024 season, and has lined up on 11 encounters this season.

Cox was taken a pick No.41 in the 2016 National Draft, and has averaged 11.8 games per season since his selection (not including 2022).
