Fremantle forward Jesse Hogan has been traded to the GWS Giants for Pick 58, which was on traded from the West Coast Eagles.
Fremantle confirmed they will trade Hogan to the Giants earlier this week.
“Following a series of discussions between the club, Jesse and his management it was mutually agreed that it was in Jesse’s best interests to further his playing career by moving away from WA,” Dockers executive general manager of football Peter Bell told the club website.
“While it is disappointing for both Fremantle and Jesse that, due to injury and other factors, he was unable to play at the level we all know he is capable of, all parties agree that in Jesse’s long-term interests the preferred option is for him to continue his career at a new club.
“We wish Jesse all the best for the future and thank him for his contribution to Fremantle.”
It will mark Hogan's third AFL club, originally crossing from Melbourne to Fremantle at the end of 2018.
A quarantine breach that cost the 25-year old $8000 was seen as Hogan's final straw at Fremantle to cap off what has been an eventful run since he joined the club.
Hogan has booted just 18 goals in 19 games since joining the Dockers, with injuries and mental health issues hampering his time at the club.
He played just seven senior appearances this year, booting five goals and spending time in defence.
Hogan thanked Fremantle for his time at the club while conceding it did not work out as both parties would have liked.
“I would like to thank the Fremantle Football Club for giving me an opportunity two years ago to come home and be closer to my family after what had been some very challenging prior years,” Hogan said.
“I will be forever in debt to the club for the care and support they have provided for me in my time here.
“They have always placed a priority on myself as a person first and now they allow me the option to move back interstate and on to another AFL club.”
He added: “I wish I was able to contribute a lot more to the football club than I have in my time here,” Hogan said.
“You will not know how disappointed I am that it didn’t work out the way I hoped it would when I got to come to the Dockers.
“For that I’m sorry, but I leave a team that is on the way up and I wish you all success in the future.”
The AFL trade period runs from November 4-12.
