Adelaide have been urged to strongly consider chasing contracted Swans gun Will Hayward on a "big money" deal.

Hayward, who is currently tied to Sydney until the end of next season, hails from South Australia but has since made the Harbour City his home, playing 107 matches in the red and white since making his debut in 2017.

The Swans lost versatile star Jordan Dawson to the Crows at the end of last season, with the 25-year-old returning to his home state in an off-season switch that saw a future first-round selection that is tied to Melbourne land wth Sydney.

And the Crows have been backed to contemplate a similar move again, with Hayward's name now linked to Adelaide.

Speaking on SEN, Port Adelaide premiership player Kane Cornes said the Crows should look to pry the Swans' jet out of Sydney.

"Will Hayward is an absolute gun,” Cornes said.

“(He's a) South Australian, Adelaide actually had the opportunity to select him in the draft some years ago.

“He kicked three on the weekend, I think he’s a midfielder waiting to happen. He’s tough, he’s exceptional in the air, and he’s a goalkicker.

“In the forward half of the ground, he could be that Isaac Heeney-type midfielder once he works his way to centre bounce exposure.

“If he decided he wanted to come home, I’d offer him big money, I think he’s an absolute gun.

“Will Hayward would be priority number one for me if I was the Crows.”

It's not the first time Cornes has tied Hayward to the Crows, with the Power champion pressing a case for the West Lakes club to consider the energetic half-forward in 2021.

"I wonder whether Will Hayward from Sydney is gettable, because I think this kid can be a very good footballer," Cornes told SEN in May last year.

Given Hayward's contract status at the Swans, the Crows would be required to hand over draft picks or at least a player to reach a deal, with Adelaide currently holding picks 3, 21 and 75 for the 2022 National Draft.

Hayward has given no indication of wanting to depart the Swans, who are currently pressing for a top-four finish this year.
