Gold Coast midfielder Brayden Fiorini avoided any suspension following a contentious incident with Melbourne's Harrison Petty.

The Match Review Officer (MRO) deemed the contest as not reportable, but explained the reasoning as to why.

"The incident involving Gold Coast Sun's Brayden Fiorini and Melbourne's Harrison Petty from the Second Quarter of Saturday's match was assessed by the Match Review Officer," the statement said.

"It was the view of the MRO that Fiorini genuinely contests the ball, and it was reasonable for him to contest in that way. No further action was taken."

Melbourne's Steven May also avoided any sanction for his late spoil on Ben Ainsworth, which caused a melee between the two clubs during the third term.

Suns forward Ben King was considered the instigator of the all-in brawl, and was fined $1,500 ($1,000 guilty plea).

A total of 12 players, including King, were penalised for the same amount for engaging in the melee, including John Noble, Jed Walter, Noah Anderson, Bailey Humphrey, Sam Collins, Sam Clohesy, Christian Salem, Jack Viney, Clayton Oliver, Jake Melksham and May.

However, Anderson and Viney were charged $5,000 ($3,125 guilty plea) due to the incident being their third offence. Oliver $3,125 ($1,875 guilty plea) for his second.

Oliver was also sanctioned for making an obscene gesture in the third quarter, and will pay $1,500 ($1,000 guilty plea), while Viney's total fee will also include a careless contact with the umpire charge of $1,500 ($1,000 guilty plea).

Earlier in the contest, Kysaiah Pickett was charged with striking Anderson in the first quarter, which was his fourth offence. He will hand over $5,000 ($3,125 guilty plea).

The Hawthorn-North Melbourne battle also saw a host of players asked to reach in their pockets following their indiscretions.

Jy Simpkin and Tom Barrass were charged with striking and rough conduct. The Kangaroos captain's incident on Lloyd Meek was deemed intentional conduct, low impact and body contact, constituting a $6,250 fine ($3,750 guilty plea).

As for Barrass, the MRO saw his action on Paul Curtis as careless conduct, low impact and high contact, resulting in a $3,000 fee ($2,000 guilty plea).

Dylan Moore ($1,500) and Luke Davies-Uniacke ($3,125 - second offence) were charged with careless contact with an umpire.

Hawks pair Nick Watson and Jai Newcombe were involved in a melee with Kangaroos' Wil Dawson in the final term, with the latter duo set to pay $1,500 ($1,000 guilty plea. Watson will pay $5,000 ($3,125 guilty plea) due to a third offence.
