Dual Brownlow Medallist Chris Judd has just added Melbourne Cup winner to his long list of achievements after Point of Law stormed home to win the 2026 edition.

Judd was part of a powerful ownership group which included former North Melbourne footballer and businessman Kerry Good, who tragically lost his daughter Ashlee in the Bondi stabbing attack in 2024, prominent owner Rupert Legh, who won his first Melbourne Cup after decades of trying; and John O'Neill (Verry Elegant - 2021).

All under the guidance of the highly regarded trainer Ciaron Maher.

The former Eagle and Blue also had shares in James J Braddock, who finished seventh.

“Winning a premiership is a lot harder,” Judd said, according to the Herald Sun.

“They're both pretty cool. I mean, it's pretty iconic. It's such a big day in Melbourne, and you know it's one of those things in the calendar that everyone sort of stops for, whether it's the Grand Final, this, and probably Boxing Day and a couple of others.

“When you own as little as I do. You feel like a fraud referring to it as your horse, but the longer the day goes on, the more comfortable I'll be.”

Good also celebrated his victory. He played 74 games for the Kangaroos, kicking 150 goals between 1977 and 1983. He is famously known for winning the Night Series against Collingwood in 1980 with a goal after the siren.

“Ash is looking down on me today,” Good said to Racing.com.

“A couple of things happened to me during the week, and I thought, ‘She's around us, she's going to make it happen'. Someone nearly ran into me the other day, but thankfully it didn't happen. I thought, ‘Ash is around me, she's helped me'.

“She wanted me to get here and here we are, it's unbelievable.”
