Richmond father-son prospect Jack Leys is set to miss the opening game of the AFL Under-18 Championships after sustaining a hamstring injury in a SANFL Under-18s game last Thursday.
He is set to be available for South Australia's second game of the National Championships against the Allies on Sunday 21 June at Alberton.
After undergoing an MRI scan, results came back positive ensuring no long term absence.
Leys comes from a strong pedigree at Punt Road. His father, Brian Leys, was a reliable defender who pulled on the yellow and black jumper 110 times between 1988 and 1994.
The setback follows a strong start to the year at Talent League level for the 182cm winger.
"He's good one-on-one and is strong on the contest and one of the reasons for that is he drives his legs. He's clean with his ball handling," his Woodville West Torrens coach Shane Reardon told Zero Hanger last month.
"The wing allows him to use his speed. He's been challenging himself to get more offensive," Reardon added.
"His game is still evolving but I think the wing is his spot because he can cover the ground and get back into the defensive 50."
The Croweaters kick off their National Championships against Western Australia on Saturday.
Those close to Leys, who spent part of pre-season at Punt Road, are confident he will return fully fit, giving him ample opportunity to press his case ahead of the AFL Draft.
