The AFL has confirmed dates and times for Round 24 of the season, which includes the Opening Round postponed clash between Gold Coast and Essendon at People's First Stadium.

The last round will open with Essendon and Carlton at the MCG on Thursday, given the Bombers will face the Suns the following Wednesday.

Gold Coast will travel to South Australia to take on Port Adelaide on Friday, before heading home to host Essendon.

Collingwood and Melbourne will play a double-header alongside the Suns and Power.

Saturday's trifecta of clashes won't have large amounts of influence on the finals race, although Geelong's clash with Richmond will be watched closely, given Jeremy Cameron's push towards 100 goals for 2025.

Sunday's trio may have more ramifications, beginning with GWS and St Kilda at ENGIE Stadium, with the Giants likely to be vying for a top-eight spot.

It will be followed by Western Bulldogs and Fremantle at Marvel Stadium, and then finish off with Brisbane and Hawthorn at the Gabba.

"Round 24 is set to deliver an exciting finish to the home and away season, with several matches likely to influence the final eight," AFL Head of Strategy & Scheduling Josh Bowler said.

"The round will start on Thursday night and finish the following Wednesday to provide the Gold Coast Suns and Essendon sufficient days' break between matches, with their rescheduled Opening Round match being played during Round 24, in addition to their respective clashes against Carlton and Port Adelaide.

"To avoid a clash between the Western Bulldogs' Round 24 AFL match and their Round 2 AFLW match, we have also adjusted the start time of the AFLW match between Richmond and the Western Bulldogs on Sunday, 24 August, and subsequently the AFLW match between Essendon and the West Coast Eagles.

"The revised start times give Bulldogs fans the opportunity to watch both their club's teams play on the same day, and we thank everyone involved in working through these changes."

Major broadcaster Channel 7 will not be showing their usual Thursday night football, opting to replace the Essendon-Carlton clash with Sunday evening's battle between the Lions and Hawks.
