Up to 120 potential draftees will undergo testing requirements at the AFL Draft Combine in October before eyeing selection at the National Draft the following month.

Key young guns Nick Daicos, Sam Darcy, Finn Callaghan, Tyler Sonsie Josh Sinn will lead the pack of 32 Vic Metro players invited, while Vic Country will have 23 players attend, headlined by Ben Hobbs, Joshua Rachele and Josh Gibcus.

Western Australia and South Australia will send 26 and 25 players respectively.

Notable players to keep an eye on from WA are Neil Erasmus and Matthew Johnson, while Jason Horne-Francis and Arlo Draper from SA are expected to perform very well.

Elsewhere around the country, five players will be invited from NSW/ACT, while three players each from Tasmania, Queensland and the Northern Territory have been asked to attend.

A total of six players have been invited from the northern states' academies - one from Sydney, two from Greater Western Sydney and four from the Gold Coast.

AFL Draft Combine Key Dates

Due to a suite of interruptions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the AFL Draft Combine will be state-based for the second consecutive year, with testing data to be made available to all clubs.

October 1: Vic Country

October 9: Vic Metro

October 10: Queensland

October 11: Tasmania

October 16: South Australia

October 17: Western Australia

The league is still working through where Northern Territory players will be tested, while all available options are being explored in regards to testing NSW and ACT-based players.

AFL National Draft Key Dates

Fox Footy reported on Wednesday that the national draft is scheduled to run over two nights, with the pre-season and rookie drafts being held the following day.

Wednesday 24 November: Round 1

Thursday 25 November: Round 2 onwards

Friday 26 November: Pre-season and rookie drafts

As it stands, North Melbourne will take pick one, GWS will have pick two (received from Collingwood in 2020) and the Gold Coast will have the third pick.

The pandemic-induced logistical landscape has required the AFL to remain flexible over the past two seasons, and the league is wary that all the aforementioned dates and events are subject to change.

“The AFL continues to focus on holding as many NAB AFL Draft Events as possible but acknowledge the challenges surrounding the COVID situation across Australia. Where events aren’t permitted, the AFL will continue to explore alternative plans to give players and AFL clubs the best opportunity for talent identification," an AFL statement reads, via Fox Footy.

“While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, the health and welfare of our players and the community remains the priority,"
