AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon has left the door ajar for Fremantle to use 'Wharfie Time' in Saturday's Grand Final against Brisbane at the MCG.
Multiple reports indicated the Dockers wouldn't be allowed to use the much-beloved spectacle in the 2026 decider.
Dillon, who appeared on Fox Footy's AFL 360, said he met with the two clubs on Tuesday to discuss the Lions' goal songs and 'Wharfie Time'.
“We're just working through the finer details of that with both the clubs at the moment. Because the grand final doesn't have a home side per se, it's a neutral game,” Dillon said.
“So, how those goal celebrations play out and the potential for ‘Wharfie Time', we've got to dot some I's and cross some T's there.
“There has been some reporting that it has been banned, (but) there hasn't been a decision for or against at the moment. We're working through it.”
Fremantle have used 'Wharfie Time' on two occasions this year, including the semi-final win over Geelong.
In the final 90 seconds, the Dockers rang the ominous bells as the club and its fans were preparing to salute the victory against the Cats.
The other occasion was against Hawthorn in Round 9.
In last year's grand final, Brisbane had goal celebration songs, including Charlie Cameron's famous theme track, John Denver's 'Take Me Home, Country Roads'. He kicked four goals.
Songs will again be permitted after goals this Saturday.
“I didn't think it was as big a deal as what it is. But, absolutely, it's important for our fans. So, that's why we're looking at it through that lens,” Dillon added.
“But we've got to make sure it's respectful of the football and everything else as well.
“That's what we're working through. If we have (players songs) for Brisbane, which has worked well, then, what's the Fremantle, and how does that play out?”
