The AFL has confirmed that the 2022 VFL Grand Final will take place at Ikon Park on Sunday 18 September at 2.30pm.

The venue, which has a capacity of approximately 21,000, hosted the VFL's most decider in 2019.

The 22-round home and away VFL season will conclude this weekend, before eight teams contest a four-week finals series.

AFL Head of State League Competitions Jennie Loughnan said it marks an exciting time for the league after a challenging two-year absence of VFL finals.

"The 2022 Smithy’s VFL Finals Series marks an exciting time for our competition after two challenging years that have prevented us from playing finals football," she said in an AFL statement on Thursday.

"We have witnessed an outstanding home-and-away season and we look forward to the finals with great anticipation as the best sides battle it out for this year’s premiership, which will be the first awarded since 2019.

"We strongly encourage all football supporters to come and enjoy a great day at the footy, where they can watch talented VFL and AFL-listed players representing the best-performed teams take to the field in the 2022 Smithy’s VFL Grand Final."

The league higher-ranked team will host finals in week one to three, before the competition's decider heads to Ikon Park in week four.

The VFL finals series will be broadcast on Channel 7 and 7plus, and live-streamed on AFL.com.au and on the AFL Live App.

Saturday August 27 and Sunday August 28
First Qualifying Final: 1st vs 4th
Second Qualifying Final: 2nd vs 3rd
