When AFL.com.au asked the players which new recruit will make the biggest impact in 2018, the players voted for two of the oldest heads in the game.

After 16 seasons with Hawthorn, the players still believe Luke Hodge has a lot to give, with 18% of players suggesting Hodge's impact on Brisbane this season won't be matched by any other recruits around the league.

Hodge's move to Brisbane saw him come out of retirement to head north, after announcing he was hanging up the boots at Hawthorn mid-season.

The 33-year-old signed a two-year deal with Brisbane, with coach Chris Fagan bringing him in to add some much needed leadership and a veteran presence to a young backline.

Hodge was the most popular vote, beating out Melbourne's Jake Lever (14%), and Geelong's Gary Ablett (13%).

Ablett returns to the Cattery after seven seasons at the Gold Coast, where he won a Brownlow Medal, four best and fairest trophies and four All-Australian guernseys.

The 33-year-old now joins a star-studded midfield, and will play alongside Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood, in what is sure to be the strongest engine room in the competition.

Fremantle's Nathan Wilson (11%) was the only other player to gather at least 10% of the votes, with Port Adelaide's Tom Rockliff (8%) and Adelaide's Bryce Gibbs (7%) rounding out the poll.
