Collingwood defender Jeremy Howe will miss the rest of his side's blockbuster clash with the Tigers after suffering a concussion.

The incident occurred in the first quarter, where Howe was taken out by his own teammate Darcy Moore in a marking contest.

After being helped off the ground by trainers, the door was left open for the 28-year old to return after he denied the stretcher. But Howe was subsequently ruled out after failing a concussion test.

It is a massive blow to the undermanned Pies, who already lost emerging star Jordan De Goey to a leg injury during the week.

In addition, Collingwood's tallest defender in the contest will now be backman Matthew Scharenberg, who stands at just 191cm.
