Greater Western Sydney legend Toby Greene has said he was confused by St Kilda's decision to target ruck Tom De Koning during last season's trade period.
The 32-year-old stepped into a special comments role on SEN with aplomb on Friday, and he wasn't afraid to give his opinion as he questioned St Kilda's decision to offer De Koning big money, given the Saints already had ruck Rowan Marshall on their books.
Marshall starred against Geelong on Thursday night with two goals, 33 disposals and 30 hit outs.
Given two-star ruck partnerships haven't worked in the past, highlighted by Melbourne's effort to get Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy gelling together, Greene admitted he was confused by the Saints' decision to go after De Koning.
"I don't know why Saints got TDK; like Marshall's a gun," Greene said on SEN's AFL Nation on Friday night.
"He's always been good.
"So they didn't need to pay (TDK) $1.7 million (per year), did they?
"Did they get better? They have got Marshall playing forward... but he is a better ruckman than TDK.
"Marshall's a better forward than (Grundy and Gawn), so it works better at Saints.
"No one has played two number one rucks and made it work in the last three years."

Greene also revealed how his game evolved drastically after being drafted to the Giants with the 11th pick in 2011.
Every year, prospective draftees are compared to stars of the game to give an indication of what kind of player they might become in the AFL.
During his draft year, Greene, now one of the league's best midfielder-forwards was compared to a Western Bulldogs star who was an in-and-under accumulator, won three All-Australians, played 292 games, but only kicked 86 goals.
"Matty' Boyd (was my comparison)," he said.
"Because I was just an accumulating mid that didn't spread that well... and just racked them up.
"I wasn't a great kick. I just sort of changed my whole game. I had to because we had about 10 mids, so I said if I want to play AFL every week, I'd have to play forward, and it sort of evolved from there.
"I always played a little bit of forward as a kid. I grew into it, learned to love it and haven't moved since."
Greene has played 278 games for the Giants to go along with 443 goals as one of the league's stars and premier midfielder-forwards over the past decade, with three All-Australians of his own.
