Sydney forward Tom Papley has rejected a move to a rival club in favour of staying with the Swans for the 2021 season.

Carlton were believed to be in the front seat for the Swans star, until Fox Footy analyst Jonathan Brown revealed the goal sneak would be remaining in NSW for another season.

“I am of the understanding that his management has told potential suitors he will be staying at the Swans, which is good news for Sydney fans,” Brown said during the Swans' match against Brisbane on Sunday.

“There has been a lot of speculation that teams were into him and that he would leave. He will be in Sydney Swans colours going forward.”

Papley's agent, Winston Rous, is believed to have notified interested clubs of Papley's decision to remain in Sydney, according to Fox Footy.

Essendon and Melbourne join the Blues in seeking the 24-year-old's services, but will now have to look elsewhere in the upcoming trade window.

Papley requested a trade to Carlton in 2019, before the Swans held firm after valuing their star man higher than any received bid.

Papley is contracted until the end of the 2023 season and has booted 144 goals in his 98 matches for the Swans.
