Port Adelaide chairman David Koch has vehemently denied claims that the Power could accelerate contract talks with coach Ken Hinkley amid Richmond speculation.

With the shock exit of Tigers coach Damien Hardwick set to come on Tuesday, Hinkley, whose contract expires at the end of 2023, could be in the Tigers' eye.

Despite calls for Hinkley to be sacked after starting the season 1-2, the coach has earnt himself security after winning eight straight games.

However, Koch isn't willing to sign his 10-year-coach before rivals come circling.

"Don't forget this decision to delay talks about extending Ken's contract was made before the season with Ken and I," the chairman began on Sunrise.

"He agreed to it because we wanted no distractions this year for our group โ€” the football group โ€” achieving the most success they possibly can.

"After 10 rounds, I'm pretty happy with the way that strategy is going... we stick to the plan."

Condition to the Power's success, Koch is expected to hold contract discussions with Hinkley in August.

The long-time Port Adelaide coach has led his team to three preliminary finals but has failed to bring the ambitious club its second AFL premiership.

With the off-season addition of Jason Horne-Francis, and midfielders Connor Rozee and Zak Butters stepping up, Hinkley's club appears ready to challenge for the flag in September.

Port Adelaide will meet with Richmond on Sunday afternoon at the MCG, which is expected to be the Tigers' first game without Hardwick since 2009.
