With Fremantle surging to the top of the ladder, albeit temporarily, with a 7-1 win-loss tally, expectations around the club are surging to levels unheard of in recent years.

Young gun Jordan Clark, who joined the club from Geelong at the end of 2021, spoke candidly to ABC Grandstand following Friday night's 78-point demolition of North Melbourne about his first impressions of the club and the success that has come so far in 2022.

“I knew when I first came to the Club, just what a tight young group it was, and how everyone gelled and wanted to see each other succeed and were really happy for each other's performance,” Clark told ABC Grandstand.

“When I saw that, I thought, yeah, this this could be something special here. Everyone's on the same page, got the same mindset, same focus. That was probably the moment I noticed it.”

With COVID absences ravaging the Western Australian teams, with six Fremantle players entering health and safety protocols this week alone, Clark said the playing list is abiding by all restrictions the club has put in place.

“The boys try really hard, we've got a really young group and within that group, there's a lot of young leaders who really drive the Club forward,” Clark said.

“We have our game plan and we work really hard on executing that, we all know our roles pretty well at the moment, we seem to be executing them and on top of our skills, it's being really confident and having our mates’ backs.

“There’s all the support from the boys out on the oval knowing that whatever we do, they're going to back us in and it's starting to come out. We're starting to see some boys bring what they've got. It's really good to watch.”

Clark has had a solid season so far in his new colours, averaging 19.6 disposals and 2.6 tackles per game eight rounds in.

Fremantle head to Queensland to face Gold Coast in Round 9 on Sunday afternoon, hoping to avoid more forced changes at the hands of COVID protocols.
