The season of in-demand Port Adelaide forward Mitchell Georgiades has come to a premature close after the out-of-contract youngster ruptured his right anterior cruciate ligament at SANFL level on Sunday.

The Power confirmed the worst on Monday evening, stating that the 21-year-old will "see a surgeon in coming days to organise reconstructive surgery" after landing awkwardly at the weekend.

“It's really unfortunate that Mitch will now miss a significant period of football,” Port Adelaide's Head of Medical Services, Tim O'Leary, confirmed via club statement.

“He'll see a surgeon in coming days to organise reconstructive surgery and then spend several months rehabilitating.

“We know an ACL is a tough injury for any footballer but Mitch is a really positive person who attacks training hard and we know he'll attack his rehab in the same way.”

It is not yet known whether Georgiades' injury will dampen his worth on the open market, with several rival clubs already expressing an interest in the Western Australian.

Reports out of Alberton within the past fortnight claimed that Port was working towards retaining Georgiades beyond the end of the 2023 season.

In other news out of Alberton, defender Kane Farrell is set to be sidelined for at least 2-3 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a broken cheekbone.

Port Adelaide confirmed on Monday that the 24-year-old had suffered the injury during the club's win over the Eagles on Saturday, confirming that Farrell won't play against St Kilda on Friday night.

"Farrell suffered the injury in the second quarter of Port Adelaide's AFL win over West Coast on Saturday," the club said.

"While he was able to play out the game, an x-ray on Sunday revealed the fracture and he underwent surgery soon after.

"The injury is likely to keep him sidelined for two to three weeks."

Farrell has played all six games so far this season, averaging 15.3 disposals per game in his sixth season at Alberton.

The 24-year-old joins Orazio Fantasia on the injury list, who remains around three weeks away from his return from a quad complaint, as well as Charlie Dixon. Meanwhile, the club is awaiting scans to assess the damage to Mitch Georgiades after he was stretchered off in the SANFL after hurting his right knee.

Port will also be without Tom Jonas for Friday night's clash, with the 32-year-old accepting his one-match suspension for rough conduct against Eagle Jai Culley.

The Power will take on St Kilda on Friday at Marvel Stadium, scheduled for 7:50pm AEST.
