Richmond has confirmed that young Tiger Jack Ross will be sidelined for the "short term" after suffering a knee injury.

Ross suffered a left medial ligament strain while at training on Thursday and was subsequently left out of Richmond's practice-match squad for this weekend, with the club now confirming he will be unavailable for selection in the short term.

"Jack Ross is expected to miss the short term after a left medial ligament strain from an incident at training on Thursday," Richmond confirmed on social media.

Ross played 15 games for the Tigers last season, averaging 16.6 disposals per match in what was his fourth season at the club after his 2019 debut.

The 22-year-old wasn't the only Tiger sidelined for Richmond's practice match on Saturday, with Jack Graham (toe) and Marlion Pickett (adductor) also sidelined through injury, while Robbie Tarrant is also unavailable as he deals with a hip concern.

Richmond were dealt another injury blow in the pre-season hitout, with the club confirming that Dion Prestia has strained a pectoral muscle. The 30-year-old was taken from the match, but was still present running laps at half-time, per AFL Media's Sarah Black.

The Tigers haven't confirmed if their three-time premiership player will be sidelined for Round 1.

Richmond will open the 2023 season with a Round 1 blockbuster against Carlton at the MCG.
