Recently retired ruckman and heavyweight, Shane Mumford, has announced his next chapter; boxing.

The former Giant retired at the end of 2017 due to ongoing injuries, is now turning his focus to getting into the ring, and already has one person in mind for his first fight.

The two-metre, 108 kilogram giant was renowned for his dominant force, his crunching tackles and superior presence on the football field, would though be an underdog against the undefeated Paul Gallen [8-0], who currently plays for Cronulla Sharks in the NRL.

“Shane Mumford, retired last year with some knee issues and persistent injury concerns, I understand Mumford will make a comeback of sorts this year,” Tom Browne reported on Triple M’s The Hot Breakfast.

“Mumford wants to box — yes, box — Paul Gallen, who’s the captain of the Cronulla Sharks, and wants to make a comeback in the world of boxing.

“I understand that will take place on pay-per-view this year.”

While Gallen would be giving up 20cm in the matchup, it would certainly deliver with the two hardest men in each footballing code, the AFL v NRL debate could be settled once and for all.
