Sydney coach John Longmire has been heavily linked to the vacant North Melbourne coaching role, with the Roos even reportedly offering the Swans coach a five-year deal worth $6 million.

The former Kangaroo is yet to make a call on his future, although journalist Caroline Wilson believes he wants to stay in Sydney, and will sign an extension with the Swans before the month is out.

“My understanding is that John Longmire’s preference is to stay in Sydney. My understanding is that the last time his contract was announced, we were getting into July of 2017,” she told Sportsday Radio.

“If they do as they normally do, and (Swans CEO) Tom Harley has given no indication otherwise, my understanding is they’re not only talking now, that there’ll be an announcement at the end of July.

“If all goes to plan, John Longmire will get a two-year contract extension at the Sydney Swans.”

Longmire has coached the Swans since 2011, taking them to premiership success in 2012.
