GWS midfielder Stephen Coniglio has avoided an ACL injury, but won't feature for the rest of the 2019 campaign.

Foxsports.com.au understands Coniglio has suffered a cartilage tear to his left knee, which will mean he'll have to go under the knife and will be out of action for the next three months.

GWS is expected to confirm the news on Monday afternoon, with the Giants' midfielder to meet a surgeon later this week.

Initial fears of an ACL were put to bed with the scans, with Congilio avoiding the dreaded long-term injury.
