Carlton will reject Greater Western Sydney's request for their No.1 pick in a deal for Dylan Shiel.

Shiel is expected to decide his future as early as Monday, with Carlton and Hawthorn the front-runners for his services.

If the midfielder selects the Blues, the Giants will ask for Carlton's pick No.1 and a second-round selection in return for Shiel and pick No.13.

The Blues would then trade pick No.13 to Adelaide for Mitch McGovern.

According to The Herald Sun, the Blues are determined to hold onto the No.1 pick to recruit Geelong Falcons midfielder Sam Walsh.

Shiel has a year remaining on his current deal with the Giants but is open to returning to Victoria during this year's trade period.

The Giant's star grew up barracking for the Blues and idolised Chris Judd.

On Tuesday Carlton powerbrokers flew Shiel to Noosa in a private jet to make their pitch to him. Shiel met with Blues coach Brendan Bolton, list boss Stephen Silvagni and Judd on the trip.
