Carlton has surfaced as one of several clubs in looking to acquire the signature of Gold Coast speedster Jack Martin, who is out of contract at season's end and yet to decide his future with the Suns.

According to The Age, The Blues join North Melbourne and St Kilda in pursuing the 24-year-old away from Metricon, while Martin is yet to initiate in any offers from clubs.

The Suns managed to hold off Martin's request for a trade to Essendon during last year's trade period, with the Blues also showing early interest in offering a future first round pick for the forward/midfield utility.

Both West Coast and Fremantle haven't shown interest in acquiring the signature of Martin, in a deal to lure him home to Western Australia.

Carlton acquisition of Adelaide's first draft selection will have the Blues primed for a favourable deal with the Suns if Martin was to leave.

It is understood that Martin is more comfortable on the Gold Coast since wanting to leave last season, with a stronger relationship with coach Stewart Dew sure to become a factor into Martin's decision.

Martin is likely to consider his security in the AFL over a pay rise to factor into contract demands, with his current contract with the Suns currently set at a high figure.

Essendon's pursuit for Martin will be weaker than their hunt last season, with the arrival of Giants superstar Dylan Shiel limiting the Bombers draft selections and salary.

Gold Coast's decision to deny Martin a move to Victoria last season arose after co-captains Tom Lynch and Steven May signed for Richmond and Melbourne respectively.

Martin's season to date has mirrored his clubs form, with a promising start under Dew proving many doubters wrong. Martin is averaging close to five tackles a match to go with his 20.2 disposal average.
