Geelong and Hawthorn are touted as "frontrunners" for the signature of Harley Reid as the West Coast wunderkind weighs up his future with multiple offers coming across his desk.
Reid is still contracted until the end of 2026, but given his potential and what he's shown, many clubs are attempting to get in front of him.
The Eagles put forward three deals to the former Pick 1, ranging from three years, to five years and free agency, and then a longer-term offer, showing "how much they value" the Victorian.
All three offers range from $1.6 million a season to around $2 million, according toย AFL Media'sย Cal Twomey.
"He's still going to take his time," Twomey said onย Gettable.
"He's shown a willingness over the course of his year and a half at the Eagles to take his time. But in doing this, the Eagles have shown how much they value him, how much they love him, how much they want him.
"But it's not going to stop the Victorian clubs coming for him."
The strong pull that has seen many players return to their home state is what's working in favour of the Victorian clubs.
But Twomey, having ruled out three, believes the Hawks and Cats pose as genuine destinations.
"I think all but a couple of clubs in Victoria are going to be in this chase this year and also next year," Twomey added.
"North Melbourne, I don't see in it. The Western Bulldogs, either. And Carlton have real salary cap constraints.
"Hawthorn and Geelong stand out as the real frontrunners on this one.
"Essendon has the picks and the cash. And don't forget Melbourne having a red-hot go, given the fact a couple of years ago, they made the biggest ever picks-swaps offer to try and get access to (Reid)."
Geelong has a competitive advantage over its fellow Victorian contingent given the lifestyle they offer of being outside the Melbourne bubble, whilst also presenting themselves as premierships contenders each year under the direction of Chris Scott.
Hawthorn, on the other hand are just entering their premiership window under Sam Mitchell, who has made it known to the AFL world how aggressive he is prepared to be to lure top-end talents.
Mitchell met with Reid's teammate Oscar Allen, who, like Reid, is weighing up his future at the struggling Eagles.
