St Kilda assistant coach Brett Ratten has spoken about his desire to return to a top job.

The only current vacancy in the AFL is at North Melbourne, although caretaker coach Rhyce Shaw impressed in his first game as coach with a 37-point win over the Tigers on Friday night.

A number of ex-coaches and big names have been linked with the Roos job, with Ratten suggesting he'll "have a serious look" at the position.

“I’m really enjoying St Kilda and we have a job to do and I’ll focus on that," he told SEN's Crunch Time

“I enjoy coaching; I love working with players and trying to develop people.

“To get thrown into a senior role at a young age, maybe it was a bit too quick, and then to learn from Clarko and now the experience at St Kilda will round me off as a coach.”

The 47-year-old coached the Blues for the final six games of 2007 until the end of the 2012 season, and finished with a record of 60 wins, 59 losses and one draw.
