Carlton chief executive Graham Wright has stood by the club's decision to keep Michael Voss at the helm in 2026.

Speaking to Carlton's website following Voss' resignation, Wright indicated that Josh Fraser would remain interim for the rest of the season, enabling the club the rest of the season to find the right coach.

“I think it was the right call absolutely,” Wright told Carlton Media of Voss initially staying.

“I think we've won 12 of the last 40 games. We haven't been good enough and as I said those conversations were happening with Michael over the weekend and we've landed here today

“It was the right time to come to a decision mutually for us to allow us the rest of the season to have time and a very good runway into the selection of the next coach. I think it shows the calibre of person he is to come to a decision like that.”

A strong theme from president Rob Priestley was the strength of Wright and footy director Chris Davies in steering a new direction of the club.

“I think if you look at the club, football land football performance is the area we've been falling short so it's the area the board is very focused on,” Priestley said.

“We want to hire the best and right people in the industry into that. We think we've got that in Graham, (Chris Davies) and others like Travis Boak who have the reputation for delivering in football programs so that is the focus for us and will continue to be the focus.”

A panel is being put together by the Blues to find their next senior coach, with Wright not shying away from the position the club is in.

“I think we're bottom four right at the moment and as we've all noted, that's not good enough," Wright said.

"From a realistic perspective, we need to get better than where we sit right now and that as Rob (Priestley) has alluded to, goes to every area of the club, but particularly in our football program, how do we get better and how do we get better quickly with no ceiling on where we can get to but also leaning in and understanding there is a reality about our position and how do we get better and better quickly."
