Port Adelaide forward Junior Rioli has been referred to the AFL Tribunal after being charged with striking by the league'sย Match Review Officer.
The charge follows an off-the-ball incident involving Essendon's Jordan Ridley during the second quarter of Sunday's match at Adelaide Oval.
The strike in question left Ridley with a concussion and now facing a period on the sidelines, with the diagnosis of the head trauma likely to have been factored into the MRO's assessment of the incident.
With the charge of striking, the MRO viewed Rioli's actions as careless conduct, high contact and severe impact, resulting in a minimum three-match suspension and a referral to the AFL Tribunal.
Jordan Ridley was subbed out with concussion after this incident with Junior Rioli.

A three-game suspension will see Rioli miss upcoming matches against North Melbourne, Melbourne and Richmond and with a return to come against Hawthorn in Round 12.
Set to attend the AFL Tribunal this week, Rioli will be one of four cases to be heard, with Geelong's Brad Close, Carlton's Nic Newman and Melbourne's Jacob van Rooyen also set to challenge their respective charges from Round 8.
The AFL Tribunal will sit on Tuesday evening.
Rioli was one of 12 players charged from Sunday's action, with nine players charged from the Round 8 match between Sydney and Collingwood due to a melee.
Brayden Maynard, Isaac Quaynor, Will Hayward, Marc Sheather, Josh Daicos, Ryan Clarke and Brody Mihocek can accept $1000 fines each with early pleas, while Tom Papley (instigating a melee/wrestle) and Tom McCartin (engaging in melee/wrestle, second offence) can accept $1500 fines.
North Melbourne Jy Simpkin can accept a $1,000 fine for misconduct, while Conor Rozee can accept a $2,500 fine for careless contact with an umpire.
