North Melbourne has waved goodbye to national talent scout Scott Clayton after five years at the club.

Clayton joined the Kangaroos ahead of the 2020 season after spending time with a quartet of clubs in the AFL.

His role encompassed draft, trade and list management strategy.

The 65-year-old played 160 games for Fitzroy in the 1980s and was awarded the club's best and fairest (Mitchell Medal) in the final season of his career (1990).

"Over five AFL national drafts, Scott's wealth of knowledge and experience, teamed with his dedication to his recruiting craft, has been an asset to our team," North Melbourne's head of football talent Brady Rawlings said.

"We thank Scott for his service to North Melbourne and wish him well in his pursuit of new opportunities within the industry."

Clayton had a strong hand in welcoming the club's current core group, including Paul Curtis, Tom Powell, Harry Sheezel, George Wardlaw, Colby McKercher and Finn O'Sullivan.
