With the AFLW season kicking off a Friday, the League will debut a new rule this season, and thus a new free kick gesture.
The AFLW have adopted the SANFL's last touch out of bounds rule, and will debut the rule in the national competition for the first time, and have finally agreed on a signal after some confusing practice matches.
During the AFLW practice matches, umpires used the 'deliberate out of bounds' signal, although they have now opted for a completely new sign, the lasso.
Umpires will now twirl their hand above their heads in a circular motion like a lasso, to pay a free kick for last touch.
The new signal will make its debut on Friday night, when Carlton and Collingwood open the second AFLW season at Ikon Park.
