Star young midfielder Darcy Parish has sent a scare through the Essendon locker room, spotted at AAMI Park's scanning clinic, just four days out before their opening round clash against last year's runners up, Adelaide.

A club spokeperson has told afl.com.au they are just precautionary scans at this stage, and that he should be right to face the Crows on Friday.

In just his third season, the young star has notched 40 games already, and will be looking to be a major influence going forward this year for the Bombers, especially through the midfield.

If he was to miss this clash, it would be an unfortunate injury, with the Bombers already piling together some key outs heading into the early part of the season.

Livewire forward, Orazio Fantasia is out for at least the next three weeks with minor knee surgery, while exciting defender, Martin Gleeson, is expected to miss the first half of the year with a broken ankle suffered against the Cats.

Essendon will be hoping to turn around the misfortune handed to them by Adelaide in recent times, with the last four losses coming at an average of 76 points, an opportunity the Bombers can change this week.
