The week leading up to the AFL trade period is often the busiest of the off-season, and 2023 was no exception as the rumour mill continued to spin.
Melbourne star Clayton Oliver was the headline as questions on his future at the Demons were raised, while Collingwood's Taylor Adamsย emerged as a shock trade target for Sydney.

Melbourne midfielder James Jordon was the first player of the off-season to find a new home, signing with Sydney as an unrestricted free agent.
Jordon will head to the Harbour City as he looks to break into John Longmire's side after an up-and-down few seasons in the red and blue.
Melbourne secured Pick 39 as compensation for the loss of Jordon.

Giants ruckman heads west to sign with Eagles
West Coast bolstered their ruck stocks on Friday with the free agency acquisition of Matthew Flynn from GWS.
With Kieren Briggs enjoying a breakout year to go ahead of Flynn in the Giants' pecking order, Flynn explored a move elsewhere and has now signed a three-year deal with the Eagles.
GWS gained Pick 40 as compensation.

Melbourne make Clayton Oliver call
It was a week like no other for Demons superstar Clayton Oliver, who was the centre of speculation ahead of the trade period despite having seven years left on his contract at Melbourne.
Reports emerged of rival clubs circling Oliver on Tuesday, with Melbourne said to be open to a potential move if the right offer was tabled.
On Friday, the Demons released a statement declaring Oliver will remain with the club for the coming years.

Doedee picks Lions over Pies and Crows
Restricted free agent Tom Doedee has officially nominated Brisbane as his preferred landing spot after interest from Collingwood and Sydney ahead of the signing window.
Adelaide were also keen to keep the defender, however a move to Brisbane on a long-term deal was chosen by the Crows stopper.
Free agency will run until Friday, October 13.
