Melbourne will continue to be led by premiership skipper Max Gawn, who will embark on his fifth successive season as captain of the club in 2024.

Gawn was first appointed to the role ahead of the Demons' 2020 campaign and would lead the club to its drought-breaking flag victory in his second season at the helm.

Melbourne have recorded 55 wins, 27 defeats and one draw under Gawn's leadership, amassing winning records in three of his four campaigns in charge of the red and blue.

A dual best and fairest winner with the Demons, Gawn will again be supported by vice-captain Jack Viney as part of an official two-man leadership group, while a number of other senior players will also provide support.

โ€œIt's always humbling to be recognised by your peers, to have them value you and your leadership, and this year is no different,โ€ Gawn said via a club statement.ย

โ€œI love leading this club, alongside Jack, and certainly don't take it for granted.ย

โ€œJack and I have developed a really strong partnership over the past five years together. We both know what's required to taste the success we all desire and are excited by the challenge that season 2024 presents.โ€ย ย

Viney, a past co-captain of the club for three seasons, has been a formidable deputy to Gawn since stepping into his supporting role four years ago.

2024 will be Viney's ninth total season in the Demons' leadership contingent and his fifth under Gawn.

Melbourne's new season officially gets underway on Thursday, March 7 with a trip to the SCG to face Sydney.
