St Kilda's Ross Lyon has heaped praise onto assistant coach Corey Enright, who has been flagged as a likely successor at Moorabbin, however there's "nothing anywhere in writing" around a potential handover in the future.

Enright, who has been with the Saints since the end of 2021 after a coaching stint with Geelong, has held multiple roles at the club and has more recently stepped into a senior assistant role in Lyon's team.

With a report this week suggesting Enright is in line to one day take the reins from Lyon in the top job at St Kilda, the senior coach was quizzed on the theory.

While confirming there had been no agreement on a succession plan, Lyon lauded Enright's development, a path the club has hoped to have others follow.

"Certainly elevated Corey to senior assistant," Lyon said of the Geelong great.

"We work really closely together.

"He can have it today if he likes, I don't really wanna go to Perth (laughs). In all seriousness, we've got some really high-end assistants.

"What we're building here, on and off the field, we'd like to get an alignment and continue it on in perpetuity, and ultimately end up as the best Saints ever.

"Corey is a part of that. We've got a real philosophy; we want to develop all our people. Serious football clubs develop their people.

"Corey went to Harvard last year for an authentic leadership course, like I've done with a number of senior coaches. We'll just continue to grow him.

"There's nothing anywhere in writing or agreement... but clearly I've got less summers in front of me than I've seen.

"We just think we've got people that can step into it at the right time."

The Saints also have Brendon Bolton, Robert Harvey, Jared Rivers, Lenny Hayes, Brendon Goddard and Damian Carroll as part of their coaching structure under Lyon.

Both Bolton and Harvey have senior coaching experience at AFL level, coaching Carlton and Collingwood respectively, with the latter holding a caretaker role.

Enright has been in coaching and development since retiring from his playing days at Kardinia Park at the end of 2016.

The Kimba product played 332 games for the Cats from 2001, a run that included three premierships, six All-Australian selections and two best and fairests.
