With Carlton struggling down at the foot of the ladder, Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd has presented his thoughts on the matter of Patrick Cripps' contract talks.

Cripps, who is the co-captain of Carlton, has been great for David Teague's side this year, but hasn't been able to prevent his club from having another mediocre season.

Speaking on Sportsday, Lloyd offered his take on the matter and claimed it would be mutually beneficial for both parties if they parted ways during the trade period.

“I think everything should be on the table, including the captains," he said.

Patrick Cripps, what does he want? Is he worth what he’s asking for? Could we potentially get two players for that?

“I look at Joe Daniher and Orazio Fantasia and Adam Saad and Essendon is in a better spot now.”

Cripps has put up some elite numbers for season 2021, averaging 15.2 handballs per match as well as being ranked 4th in total clearances and 8th in total contested possessions.

However, he is ranked average in disposals per game, inside 50s and effective disposals, with the 26-year-old at times going missing for his side.

It was said that Cripps' deal with the Blues was done and it was a matter of announcement, but those close to the midfielder have rubbished those claims. Other rumours have linked the Carlton co-captain back home to Perth, specifically to the Eagles.

One thing is for certain however, and that is that Cripps will be due for a bumper multi-million dollar contract regardless of his destination.
