Brisbane have confirmed key forward Daniel McStay will miss up to a month of action after suffering lateral ligament damage in his ankle during his side's Round 8 win over West Coast.

The Lions have revealed that the 26-year-old will be sidelined for three to four weeks following scans on Monday.

The club's high-performance manager, Damian Austin, stated that McStay will require multiple weeks before returning to Chris Fagan's selection planning.

"We had a scan, obviously he’s got a bit of ankle damage there which is an ankle sprain, so we’ll give him about 3 weeks," Austin told Lions Media.

“We’ll hopefully get him up and moving by the end of the week.”

McStay's injury comes just one week after fellow tall forward Joe Daniher was ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.

Austin provided an update on the former Bombers spearhead's recovery.

“Joe’s going well, we’ve got him running and have upped his running loads and he’s just spending time in the gym rehabbing that shoulder," he added.

The pair of absences could see Eric Hipwood make an early return from an ACL injury sustained nine months ago.

Fagan and Austin will use the week ahead to weigh up Hipwood's return, whether that be against Adelaide on Saturday or through the VFL.

The Lions are scheduled to Hawthorn, Greater Western Sydney, Fremantle and St Kilda in the rounds that follow this weekend prior to their Round 14 bye.
