North Melbourne premiership player David King has slammed his former side after their big defeat at the hands of Essendon on Good Friday.

The Bombers dominated after quarter time en route to their 58-point triumph, with the Roos falling to 1-4 to start the season.

Following the coverage on Fox Footy, King unloaded on Brad Scott's men, suggesting he'll be feeling the pinch quite soon.

“This wasn’t meant to happen this year. I feel like the year’s almost over now - they’re going to have to get on some sort of run,” King said after the game on Fox Footy.

“And the pressure will come ultimately on Brad (Scott), and it’s about system.

“What’s your identity? I’m confused with Brad. How do you want to play? I haven’t seen the identity for a couple of seasons - and I’m hard on him, I know that.

“The second part of it is without the football. They were awful without the football. They were supposed to be developing players like Wood, Simpkin, Turner - they’ve stagnated. I’m just lost as to where to from here.”

King also mention the fact Scott is now 22 games away from moving past Denis Pagan as the longest-serving coach in club history, but questioned what mark Scott has left on the club.

“All the great coaches, this is his tenth year, all the great coaches that have coached one club for a decade have a stamp. This is who they are, this is what they demand,” King said.

“What do they demand at the Kangaroos right now? What do the Kangaroos stand for as a football club?

“You used to go to Kangaroos games three or four years ago under Brad and know they were going to give 100 per cent effort - they may not be good enough to win, but you were proud to attach yourself to the Kangaroos brand.

“Right now, it’s shootout football, you can go and see a 10-goal loss or a five-goal win, it’s lucky dip. It’s really disappointing and they should be at a different stage to where they are right now.”
